Big Game Hunting Guides

Northwestern Ontario is covered in Boreal forest. Here you'll find giant stands of white pine, black spruce, birch, and poplar, interspersed with thousands of lakes meaning there's lots of room for big game animals to roam. The main species targeted by hunters are moose, whitetail deer, and black bears. Predator hunts for timber wolves are becoming increasingly popular with most hunts done during the winter months. We also have excellent grouse hunting and in some areas, good duck and goose hunting.

For a hunter who has never visited here, using an experienced guide could be the key to your success. Many of the lodges that offer hunting packages include the guide in the package. In some cases, you are required to hunt with a guide, especially for white-tail deer. This depends on what Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) you are hunting in. Check the current Ontario Hunting Regulations for the rules - remember, rules and regulations for the same species can be different depending on where you hunt.

If the hunting lodge you're staying at doesn't include a guide in the package, to maximize your chance at harvesting a big game animal, you could consider using a hunting guide - at least for the initial few days so they can teach you the ropes of our northern forests, show you evidence of animal activities and dramatically increase the likelihood you'll harvest an animal.
