There are still two license-free fishing events for residents of Ontario to look forward to in 2019!

One is fast approaching over Father's Day Weekend. Consider this a gentle reminder to get out there with your friends and family, teach someone to fish, or just enjoy some much needed downtime on the water. License-free fishing events are great opportunities to show someone new to fishing the ropes, pressure and commitment free with no need for an Outdoors Card or fishing license for the days listed below.

All fishing regulations still apply and it won't hurt to double check the regulations before you head out.

Read more below about license-free fishing dates as well as license-free rules that apply to veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces members who reside in Ontario. We wish the residents of Ontario an amazing time over these license-free dates!

*If you do not reside in Ontario, these license-free events do not apply to you, and you will require an Outdoors Card and appropriate non-resident Fishing License.

Veterans or Active CAF Members:

If you are a veteran or active member in the Canadian Armed Forces residing in Ontario, you can fish license-free year-round with the equivalent of a Sport Fishing License. Of course, fishing regulations still apply in this instance as well. In place of an Outdoors Card and Fishing License, you are required to carry one of the following to identify yourself on the water as a veteran or active CAF member:

  • Canadian Forces Identification Card (NDI 20);
  • Record of Service Card (NDI 75); or
  • Canadian Armed Forces Veteran’s Service Card (NDI 75).

License-Free Fishing Events:

  • Father’s Day Weekend in June (June 15-16, 2019)

This event is fast approaching! Make some plans to get out on the water, its the perfect weekend to kick off your summer!

  • Family Fishing Week in June (June 29-July 7, 2019)

This week-long event is looked forward to by several families a year. Look into your community's calendar, there may be fun events such as fishing derbies for the kids (and yourself!)
