Red Lake, Ontario, Canada is known as the "Norseman Capital of the World". The Municipality of Red Lake was formed on July 1, 1998 - It was an amalgamation of the following communities: Madsen, Red Lake, Balmertown, Cochenour, McKenzie Island, Starratt-Olsen, and Flat Lake.

Lodges in Red Lake

Red Lake boasts numerous fishing and hunting lodges and resorts. On your way north to Red Lake along Highway 105, you'll come across lakes with camps on them such as Pakwash, Bruce and the Gullrock Chain of Lakes. The town itself is located on the shores of Howey Bay. You can also find housekeeping cabins and American Plan resorts on Red Lake. Red Lake, being located at the end of Highway 105, is a starting off point for many northern fly-in fishing lodges and outposts.

Red Lake Fly-in Fishing and Hunting Lodges

You'll find fly-in lodges located on lakes such as Birch Lake, Douglas Lake, Roderick Lake, Sydney Lake, Trout Lake and Upper Goose Lake. There are also numerous remote outposts lakes with fantastic fishing. Since Red Lake is at the end of Highway 105, it's a natural place for many outpost bases and air services. The vast area around Red Lake and farther north consists of lakes, forest, and a few small communities. When you fly to your remote outpost camp, the view from the float plane is amazing - miles of lakes, rivers, and trees. The float plane will land at your outpost cabin's dock and you'll get out in the middle of the wilderness for a fishing trip of a lifetime.

Two wilderness parks can be reached from Red Lake - Woodland Caribou Provincial Park and Opasquia Provincial Park. Outfitters and air services can fly you into the outpost cabins and lodges in these parks.

Campgrounds and RV Parks in Red Lake

If you're planning a camping trip this summer, Red Lake is the place to be. Drive up Highway 105 and you'll pass many lakes - including some with campgrounds and RV parks on their shores. There are campgrounds on Pakwash, Red, and Gullrock Lakes. Gullrock has access to Ranger, Keg, and Red Lakes. Even though you're "at the end of the road" in Red Lake, many of the campgrounds have fully serviced RV sites. There are clean shower houses and restrooms. Many of the campgrounds are also lodges so you have the added benefit of the services they offer - such as boat docking.

Hotels and Motels in Red Lake

If you require a hotel or motel for the entire duration of your stay, or for a night before you head out on your fly-in fishing or canoeing trip, you can find accommodations in Red Lake. There are accommodations in both Red Lake and Balmertown. Choose between hotel rooms or suites that are fully furnished. Some of the hotels have a bar or lounge and occasionally have live entertainment.
