Lake of the Woods Railroaders Museum

This neat, little museum is located on Lakeview Drive at the junction of Highway 596. There are many artifacts and educational items related to the areas Canadian Pacific stations. Enjoy a diary log containing names, pictures, and stories of any railroader having worked out of and into Kenora. During the summer months, order an ice cream next door at Dairy Queen and enjoy it at the benches surrounding the restored caboose. Summer Hours: Caboose 11am-5pm (Wed. to Sun.) Admission by donation, suggested admission is $5 per person, max $20 for family and children under 8 free. Tax receipts are issued for donations over $25.

Lake of the Woods District Hospital

The Lake of the Woods District Hospital was founded in 1897, and was originally known as the Rat Portage Jubilee Hospital and then the Kenora General Hospital. Through the years a series of additions and renovations took place to meet the expanding needs of the population. On May 1, 1968, the St. Joseph's Hospital and the Kenora General Hospital amalgamated to form the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Treating well over 30,000 people per year, Lake of the Woods District Hospital is Northwestern Ontario's largest hospital outside of Thunder Bay.

Lake of the Woods Discovery Centre

The Discovery Centre houses the visitor information centre and hosts seasonal exhibits in Kenora. The City of Kenora was honoured with a Canada Wood Council design award for the building in 2011, for best Institutional design in the buildings under $10 million category. There are also occasional multimedia outlets as well as educational interactive displays telling about the history and culture of Lake of the Woods. The building also has a theatre which can accommodate 100 people. The Centre is accessible by boat, has picnic benches and a spectacular view of Lake of the Woods. Outside you can experience an interpretative forest which depicts our natural species with signage in English and Ojibway. Open during the summer months 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday, 8 am to 7 pm on Saturday and Sunday and from September through May from 9 am to 4 pm. Phone to confirm hours: 807-467-4637.

La Verendrye Parkway

Located along the beautiful Rainy River, La Verendrye Parkway offers a scenic backdrop for all your favourite outdoor activities whether it be walking, jogging, biking, or simply out for a peaceful stroll, this two-mile cobblestone walkway is the place to be. Take a break at any of the many benches and picnic pavilions along the route. Strategically placed informational plaques capture the essence of the river's historical past.

La Verendrye General Hospital and Health Centre

La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances is part of Riverside Health Care and offers various services, including an emergency department, inpatient and outpatient clinics, and advanced surgical facilities. The hospital is staffed by local physicians, specialists, and nurse practitioners dedicated to providing a welcoming and respectful environment for all patients. With 30 acute care beds, the facility addresses a wide range of health issues, from urgent and emergent needs to chronic and routine care.

Kiwanis Skate Park

The Kiwanis Skate Park is 9,500 sq. ft. located near the Memorial Sports Centre. The Park has an array of rails, ramps, and stairs.

Kitchen Creek Golf Club

Located on Highway 11 just 8 km west of Fort Frances, Kitchen Creek Golf Club features an 18-hole fully service facility. Opened in 1976, the Kitchen Creek Golf Club has been rated as one of the best golf courses in Northwestern Ontario. The front 9 resemble a prairie course with flat, wide-open forgiving fairways, while the back 9 becomes more challenging, carved out of a heavily wooded area providing golfers with a variety of features and tactical challenges. Once you have finished your round, relax in the air-conditioned comfort of our clubhouse or enjoy the countryside air on the deck while taking in the gorgeous panoramic view.
