Kenora is located on beautiful Lake of the Woods which has 65,000 miles of shoreline and over 14,500 islands. Stay at one of the surrounding lodges, in a hotel, camp in the wilderness or fly out of Kenora into a remote fly-in outpost camp. Lake of the Woods is known for its variety of fish as well as the quality of fishing. You can fish for walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, muskie, crappie and lake trout. There are also many other lakes surrounding Kenora with lodging such as Dogtooth Lake or Longbow Lake.

Kenora Lodges and Resorts

There are several resorts and lodges to choose from on Lake of the Woods. You can drive to many of them, or for a real secluded place, try a boat-in resort on one of the many islands dotting the lake. Families will love the area - you can cruise the lake and stop for a dip at one of the numerous beaches around. Coney Island and Scotty's are two fantastic beaches to visit.

Besides Lake of the Woods, there are many other lakes surrounding Kenora such as Andy, Black Sturgeon, Dogtooth, Dryberry, Hawk, Highwind, Longbow, Separation Lake and the Winnipeg River.

Fly-in Lodges and Outpost Camps Departing From Kenora

From Kenora you can fly into outpost lakes such as Brown Bear, Carroll, Chase, Craven, Joe's, Nance, Norse, Oak Lake on the English River System, Obukowin, Populus, Roger, Scenic, Snowshoe, Trapline, Treelined, Trout and Walleye Lake as well as the English and Gammon River. Most float plane trips from Kenora will originate from the Kenora Harbourfront where you can also book a flightseeing trip - sightseeing from a float plane!

Boat-in outpost camps is also another option if you don't like to fly. Lake of the Woods is a huge lake - with over 14,500 islands. You can rent an outpost cabin in a secluded part of Lake of the Woods so you don't have to take a long boat trip every day to get to seclusion. Separation Lake also has a remote drive to outpost camp on it.

Camping in Kenora, Ontario, Canada

There are many camping vacation options in Kenora. You can camp at a private campground, at an RV resort or at Rushing River Provincial Park. Rushing River Park is a short 20 minute drive from Kenora. The majority of campsites in Kenora are along the shores of Lake of the Woods or surrounding lakes such as Longbow Lake or the Winnipeg River. If you are planning on camping and fishing in the area, many resorts also have RV parks. These resorts have fishing boat rentals and fish cleaning houses.

Whether you are staying in a trailer, R.V. or tent, you'll find campsites in Kenora. You can stay right in town on Lake of the Woods. Go north on Highway 658 from Kenora and you'll find the secluded Separation Rapids Campground. If you head just 10 minutes east you'll find some campgrounds on Longbow Lake. Longbow Lake is 8 kms long and is ideal for kayaking, canoeing, fishing, skiing, tubing, or just a relaxing boat ride. You can easily access lake of the Woods on a boat lift. 

Rushing River Provincial Park

When you pull into Rushing River the first thing you see from the highway in Rushing River cascading over rock gouged by ancient glaciers. The park is one of the best Provincial Parks in Ontario. The park has a variety of electrical and non-electrical sites that is suited to any camper ranging from a single tent to a large RV. Many of the sites are waterfront and offer great views of Dogtooth Lake. The park can be reached at 807-548-4351 in the summer and at 807-468-2669 from October to April.

Kenora Hotels and Motels

With a population of 14,500, Kenora has a variety of hotels to choose from. If you are driving across Canada, the City is located on beautiful Lake of the Woods, just off of the Trans-Canada Highway. Kenora is a two-hour drive east of Winnipeg, Manitoba and about 2-2.5 hours northwest of Fort Frances/International Falls. A few of the hotels are on Lake of the Woods, so you can park your boat. 

Some of the hotels in Kenora have swimming pools, making it a great family vacation destination. During the summer months, you can also swim at one of the many public beaches in Kenora or you can head to the Kenora Recreation Centre Pool, which has three pools and a huge indoor waterslide.
