When you go camping in Ontario, don't expect a paved lot alongside the highway! The campsites are in wooded areas and nearly always near a lake. Set in the rocky landscape of the Canadian Shield, Sunset Country is blessed with thousands of lakes and endless tracts of boreal forest, providing you with the opportunity to enjoy some of the most spectacular outdoor wilderness areas in Canada. Wilderness camping starts right outside our back door! Your choices are many and varied.
With so many freshwater lakes, it makes sense we are going to have all kinds of lakeside campgrounds for you to choose from. Your camping choices include private or Provincial Parks, many with full services and room for big RVs or trailers. Some resorts also offer campsites right next to the lodge, giving you access to use all the lodge facilities such as boat launch, fish cleaning station, or their restaurant. Many campgrounds include 30 amp or better electrical services, sewer hook-ups along with, bathroom and laundry facilities. Your campsite will often snuggle right up to the lake shore and many campgrounds have beaches and canoes, kayaks and various water toys available. Access great fishing and you get to use the boat launch during your stay.
A few outfitters offer fly-in wilderness tent camping. They'll fly you into a remote lake that has boats on them and you can set up camp there. For the real adventurous, you can also try winter tent camping!
There are also many Provincial Parks in Sunset Country and they offer a great camping experience too. If you want a real adventure hook up with a canoe outfitter and explore vast wilderness regions in parks like Woodland Caribou, Quetico and Wabikimi on a wilderness camping trip.
