Ontario's Last Frontier, better known as Pickle Lake. The adventure begins where the pavement ends! Pickle Lake is the last full-service community on Hwy 599 before the road turns to gravel and winds further north to the remote First Nations communities. Our community offers many amenities including fuel, groceries, accommodations and so much more!

The Township of Pickle Lake was incorporated in 1980 and is comprised of two smaller settlements - Pickle Crow and Central Patricia. The history of the Pickle Lake area dates back to the fur trade. In 1786 the Hudson Bay Company established the Osnaburgh House Trading post on the shores of Lake St Joseph. Harvesting furs remained the most prominent industry in the area until 1928 when gold was discovered along the banks of the Kawinogans River. Pickle Lake served as a transportation centre of the area. Home to mines for 50 years, in 1951, the Central Patricia gold mine closer followed by the Pickle Crow gold mine in 1966. From then Pickle Lake experienced further mining operations with the opening and closing of the Umex Thierry Mine, Placer Dome Inc. Mine and Bond's Gold min. 

Today Pickle Lake serves as the transportation hub for people and goods servicing 22 remote First Nations communities, a host of outfitting camps as well as exploration and infrastructure projects. Along with this industry, tourism plays a strong influence in Pickle Lake with outdoor enthusiasts, anglers and hunters coming to enjoy the pristine and untouched wilderness. The Northern Lights sightings are a spectacular array of bold greens and violtes and can be seen all seasons of the year. Visitors from all corners of the continents and world come to experience the sights of some of the most beautiful landin the Province. You are bound to se moose, bears, bald eagles, pine martens, grouse and partridge, the occasional caribou along with a large range of fish species including walleye, northern pike, whitefish and perch.
