One of the main entry points from the US into Sunset Country, Rainy River is a destination unto itself. The Town of Rainy River is located just 14 miles south of where empties into Lake of the Woods. Angling opportunities in the area are second to none. Catch walleye along with bass and super-sized muskie and pike. The deer and bear hunting opportunities are also excellent.

The Rainy River area is known for its excellent bird watching opportunities. Specifically, Sable Island on Lake of the Woods is home to a permanent breeding population fo the rare and endangered Piping Plover. All in all, almost 300 species of birds can be observed during the fall migration south. Economically, Rainy River is a railroad town and that heritage is on display and it's celebrated every July at the annual Railroad Daze event.
