The Sorting Gap & Waterfront
Take a peaceful walk along the Waterfront and enjoy the view of Rainy River. There are many benches that line the pathway and the occasional red covered picnic areas. The Historical Sorting Gap Marina is also located on site.
The Railroad 4008 Heritage Museum
The Railroad 4008 Heritage Museum is located at the head of 4th Street next to the Tourism Bureau. The museum offers a look at railroad history contained in an actual rail car. The rail car was built in 1916 by Dunkirk of Montreal. It was a Sante Fe type locomotive, which carried 200 pounds of steam pressure, weighed 144 tonnes and was 81 feet long x 14' 11" high and 10' 9 5/8" wide.
The Pictograph Gallery
Local art is on display and for sale at the gallery. It is located on the lower level of the Voyageur Mall in downtown Atikokan. Art exhibits are rotated on a monthly basis and a volume that is usually a local artisan staffs the gallery.
The Falls in Nestor Falls
Located right off of Highway 71 in Nestor Falls experience the astonishing beauty that gave Nestor Falls its name, The Falls. Ranging from forty feet to a mere trinkle depending on the season’s precipitation and water level this natural attraction is a must see. Here you will also find a picnic area to enjoy your lunch at while taking in the fall’s views. Restrooms are also available.

The Beaten Path Nordic Club
The Beaten Path Nordic Trails has a trail for everyone. Families with small children can ski for an hour on one of the easier trail loops, or an extreme skier can enjoy an all-day adventure on one of the larger loops. There so many connecting trails to choose from, including sections of the Trans-Canada Trail. Skiing at Atikokans Nordic Trails is a must for every skiing enthusiast. Series of trails include: Kemuel Loop - 4.6km Beaver Lake Loop - 6km Jack Rabbit - 4.5km Rabid Fox Run- 3.4km Timber Wolf Loop - 8.7km Moose Loop - 4.5km Nordic Loop - 10.5km North Trans Canada Loop - 7.9km Trans Canada Trail (Nym Lake Segment) - 3.8km
Terry Fox Memorial and Lookout
The Terry Fox monument is a 9 foot high bronze statue, standing proud on a 45 ton granite base with a foundation of local amethyst and offers a stunning view of Thunder Bay's Sleeping Giant. The statues was erected in memory of Terry Fox, the courageous one-legged runner who embarked on a cross-country run for cancer research "The Marathon of Hope" The monument is set near where he ended his 5,342 km (3,339 miles) run, afflicted with the disease that ended his life on June 28, 1981. *Visitor Information Centre on site*
Superior Junction Boat Launch
Municipal boat launches are maintained and operated by the Sioux Lookout Recreation and Culture Department. Whether you are fishing off the dock, launching a boat or just parking, all Municipal Boat Launches require a parking permit.
Sunset Trail Riders Snowmobile Club
The Sunset Trail Riders was established by a number of dedicated snowmobiling enthusiasts in the late 1980s. A few years later, the STR joined up with the Provincial club, The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs. The Sunset Trail Riders groom over 500 kms of trails in the Kenora region and towards the Ontario/Manitoba border.
