Big fish and incredible scenery at Cedar Lake Lodge

Location

Cedar Lake Lodge, tucked away in Ontario’s Sunset Country, offers multi-species action right from their private landing. A 3.5-hour drive from International Falls and a quick 5-minute boat ride brings you to their dock, offering trophy fishing for many species. This lake system is very manageable for first-time guests, making navigating and finding fish easy.

Fishing at Cedar Lake Lodge

Let's talk about fishing! The lake's diverse structure creates a perfect environment for big fish and numbers. We caught loads of walleye in relatively shallow water - just 11 feet deep - despite the warm 70-degree temperatures. My go-to presentations were a 1/4-ounce VMC Moon Jig with a nightcrawler, Rapala #7 Jigging Rap or a small swimbait for consistent action. The highlight came when I hooked into a monster walleye pushing 30 inches on a 3.5” swimbait! In addition to the walleye, there’s excellent fishing for perch, smallmouth bass and, of course… muskies!

I noticed that walleye and muskies were the main fish targets when talking with guests. If the other species get slow, there’s also a good smallmouth bass population for the afternoon bite. Most shallow cabbage beds are smallmouth magnets, especially in the back ends of small protected bays!

About The Lodge

The lodge has 12 cabins that can accommodate single anglers to larger groups. Each cabin offers all the modern amenities you'd expect up North - full kitchens equipped with fridges, stoves, microwaves, coffee makers, and all the cooking essentials. You'll find private three-piece bathrooms, cozy wood stoves for heat, and comfortable beds with all bedding provided - the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern convenience. Their all-inclusive package includes fishing-ready boats, each equipped with 2D sonar - ideal for targeting everything from jumbo perch to monster muskies. That's how I found my trophy walleye! You can upgrade to a spacious 18’ boat with a 50HP motor, front mount foot trolling motor and a 7” sonar unit.

The nightly lodge campfire was a welcome bonus for relaxing, stargazing and sharing fish stories. They also have a convenient live bait house and a store just down the road from the boat landing for gas and supplies. The well-known Whiskey Jack's restaurant is nearby for a great meal.

Bunks at Cedar Lake Lodge

Our guide, Nolan Plew, started as a guest and fell in love with the lake a few years ago. He showed us how versatile the fishing can be. One day, we switched between targeting walleye, smallmouth bass, and trophy pike and ending the day trying to get musky. He marked several of them daily on sonar; we even had a few chances with figure 8’s next to the boat, but there were no biters. The population of muskies was impressive, and given the right conditions, I could see multiple musky catch days very possible!

The healthy fishery means you never know what you'll catch - we hooked into big pike while jigging for walleye! Multiple double-headers and consistent action on walleye can keep you busy all day.

Cedar Lake's clear waters on one side and stained waters on the other create different fishing opportunities depending on weather conditions. Whether you're after trophy walleye, big pike, chunky smallmouth bass, or even numbers of jumbo perch, this fishery has it all. And the chance at catching a trophy musky adds a unique touch to the experience! Owners Tracy Segee and Wade Underhill will make you feel at home during your stay - a place where great fishing meets genuine hospitality.
