The Licence-Free Family Fishing Weekend is a great way to introduce new anglers of all ages to fishing in Ontario. This event is Ontario-wide and includes Canadian residents under the conservation license limits. Check out your local area for events that will be running to help promote this fun family event!

Ontario Family Fishing Events is a province-wide opportunity for Canadian residents to fish Ontario waters for free. The Ontario Government has designated four periods throughout the year as free fishing:

  • Family Fishing Weekend (February 14 – 16, 2026)
  • Mother’s Day Weekend (May 9 & 10, 2026)
  • Father’s Day Weekend (June 20 & 21, 2026)
  • Family Fishing Week (June 27 – July 5, 2026)

During all other time periods, Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years must purchase a valid fishing license to legally fish in Ontario.
