Brook trout are available in limited areas in the region. They need cold, fast-moving water to survive. The river systems draining into Hudson Bay, such as the Albany, represent excellent opportunities to catch trophy brook (speckled) trout in the 4-pound average range with the largest fish pushing 8 pounds.
Brook trout as well as excellent rainbow trout fishing can also be found along parts of the Nipigon River which drains massive Lake Nipigon into the even larger Lake Superior. The Ontario record for brook trout was caught from these waters.
