Minaki, Ontario is about 35 miles north of Kenora. From the Bypass around Kenora (Highway 17A), take Highway 596 north. This paved highway ends at Minaki. Minaki is located along the Winnipeg River System. There is direct access to a chain of lakes that can be fished without portaging. There's Gun, Pistol, Little Sand, Big Sand and Roughrock. This area has drive-in resorts that offer both American Plan and Housekeeping packages. A few resorts are accessed by boat - they'll pick you up at a safe, secure parking lot and boat you over a short distance to the lodge. If you head north on Highway 525 (it intersects with Highway 596 just south of Minaki), you'll reach more fabulous fishing lakes - Cygnet Lake and Tetu Lake (where the English River system flows in the Winnipeg River system).
From Minaki, you can also fly to outpost cabins as well as full-service American Plan lodges. Some of the outpost lakes are Alexander Lake, Bee Lake, Chase Lake, Dowswell Lake, Long Lake, English River, Margot Lake, Maynard Lake, Moosehorn Lake, Rex Lake, Roger Lake, Rolston Lake, Salveson Lake, Sharpstone Lake, Trapline Lake and Wingiskus Lake. You can also fly-in to all-inclusive resorts on One Man Lake and on the English River System.
You can fish for great tasting walleye, northern pike, huge muskie, smallmouth bass, crappie and in some lakes, lake trout. Hunt for huge black bear, moose, whitetail deer, ducks and small game such as grouse.
